Annex Pro staff just returned from a busy week at Connect 2019 and NAB 2019 in Las Vegas. We asked key staff members to share a few thoughts from these exciting events.

Kerry Corlett
Founder & CEO
Annex Pro

What was your favourite product that you saw at NAB?
My favourite thing at NAB isn’t a product, it’s our relationships with customers and partners. Meeting so many of them and hearing about their successes in 2018, and ambitions for 2019, and thinking about how Annex Pro can be helpful in making those happen, is my favourite thing at NAB.

Was there anything at the event that surprised you?
Yes, how many more customers are managing to get to NAB (and Connect) than in prior years, from all over the US and Canada, and how many of them are able to make time for our VIP reception on the second night of NAB. With all the events going on that same night, the fact that almost 200 of them found a way to spend time with the Annex Pro team and our partners was really gratifying. Customers tell me that meeting with us and our partners (not just wandering from booth to booth) is what makes the time away from their families and businesses worthwhile and really count.

What’s the most important thing you took away from the experience?
There is no substitution for trusted personal relationships. Customers expect a value added reseller to respond quickly, have meaningful technical expertise, understand their workflow, deliver products and services reliably, and offer competitive prices – that’s baseline. What is sometimes missing is that bi-directional trust between reseller and customer that we work so hard to have and maintain, and it doesn’t happen without our team of truly trusted advisors. We take this really seriously

What was your favourite experience on the trip outside of the NAB event itself?
I’m a recent convert to Roulette – I call my time at the table my “Zen moments” at NAB… and I’m only down $175!

What was your favourite product that you saw at NAB?
The new Avid Pro Tools │ MTRX DigiLink Option Card adds 64 channels of DigiLink I/O per card, enabling multi-HDX and multi-workstation systems to connect to a single Pro Tools | MTRX interface. The MTRX DigiLink option card will be available in the second quarter of 2019.

What’s the most important thing you took away from the experience?
After attending close to 30 NAB shows, I was excited to see that the media and entertainment industry continues to grow and innovate. We now have more ways to monetize and distribute media than ever before.

What was your favourite experience on the trip outside of the NAB event itself?
Hosting a VIP reception event at TAO nightclub/restaurant for about 200 of our customers to shelve the shop talk and just socialize with friends.

What was your favourite product that you saw at NAB?
Not just one, but almost everything now supports some level of 4K HDR, from applications, to I/O devices, to routing and monitoring.

Was there anything at the event that surprised you?
Some companies are really pushing future formats and technology, from 8K displays all over the show floor to new formats like 16k being supported within Avid Media Composer 2019.

What’s the most important thing you took away from the experience?
As always, it’s the people. Making those personal connections to product managers and engineers that only get out of the lab a couple of times a year. It lets me have a personal conversation with the people who are creating what’s coming next, which not only gives me a resource to find answers throughout the year but also helps me to understand the thinking behind individual feature choices and timelines in current products.

What was your favourite experience on the trip outside of the NAB event itself?
Avid Connect, right before NAB. It’s a couple of days full of learning sessions, panel discussions and seminars, and I always learn several new things that I could never have found out just by reading articles or researching online.
